Coffee with the Principal 3/10/2023. Join us for our next Coffee with the Principal on Friday March 10, 2023 at 10am in the Kennedy Parent Center (Room 701).  Join us for a presentation learning about our LCAP and school data. If you are unable to attend in person, please join us virtually via Zoom.

On-Campus Tutoring After School is available for all scholars Monday-Wednesday and Friday. Tutoring is offered in the library from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. No appointment is needed. 

 

School Site Council Meeting. Wednesday, March 15th from 3:30-4:30 in room 101. The School Site Council (SSC) is composed of the principal, teachers, other school personnel, parents and students.  It provides a forum for all of Kennedy's constituents to come together, identify common goals, and establish a plan to achieve these goals.  This involvement occurs through the development of the SPSA (School plan for student achievement), the continuous review of the implementation of the plan, the assessment of the effectiveness of the plan, and the ongoing review and updating of the school plan.  It is also a forum for you to receive on-going up to date information regarding the school and provide input representing your specific group.

 

ELAC. Kennedy's ELAC Committee will join forces with Walker to conduct its next ELAC Committee Meeting on March 13, 2023 from 9:00am-10:00am in MP1. An English Learner Advisory Committee (or ELAC) is intended for parents/guardians of English learners to advise the principal and school staff of programs and services for English learners. It is an amazing opportunity to have your voices heard and hear about all the amazing things that are happening at Kennedy!

 

CAPSTONE SHOWCASE. Kennedy High School is proud to present, “My Kennedy Story - A Capstone Project.”  Kennedy High School’s Class of 2023 will hold two presentation days, and you are invited! On Tuesday, April 4, and Tuesday, April 11 at 8 am, Kennedy High School Seniors will present their progress and growth throughout their high school experience.  Please join us as we celebrate our outstanding students! On each of the presentation days, Seniors will be assigned to a classroom on campus, and present their “Kennedy Story” to an audience of staff members, underclassmen, and community members (that’s you). Presentations each day will run from 8 am until approximately 9:15 am (please arrive as early as 7:45 am to check-in).  You will view up to ten presentations from our students.  There is no cost to attend. This is the inaugural year of the Kennedy Capstone Showcase, and we would love for you to be a part of it!  Please consider joining us on one or both of these exciting days! Additionally, we are holding a Senior Capstone Celebration Breakfast on Thursday, April 20th (8:15 am-9:15 am) for all Seniors who have presented their "My Kennedy Story." We will provide breakfast and raffle off special prizes throughout the morning to celebrate our Seniors who presented. If you are willing to contribute a prize or monetary donation (suggestions are provided on the form) to help our school cover costs related to this special day, please complete this FORM (our nonprofit tax ID number can be provided).  We even have sponsorship opportunities for business owners who are looking to donate as a business write-off. Fullerton College: Teaching Matters Conference. The Teaching Pathway Program is having their annual Teaching Matters Conference for high school students interested in the education field. CAPSTONE SHOWCASE. Kennedy High School proudly presents, “My Kennedy Story” Capstone Showcase, and you are invited! On Tuesday, April 4, and Tuesday, April 11 at 8 am, the Class of 2023 will present their progress and growth in high school through a Slide Deck.  (All Seniors have a copy in eKadence. The slide deck contains instructions). 

 

Please join us as we celebrate our outstanding students! On each of the presentation days, Seniors will be assigned to a classroom and present their “Kennedy Story ” to a small group comprised of staff, underclassmen, parents and community members. Presentations each day will run from 8 am until approximately 9:15 am (please arrive as early as 7:45 am to check-in).  You will view up to ten presentations from our students.  There is no cost to attend. Youth Development Section with the City of Anaheim Youth in Government Day program being held on Wednesday, February 22nd at the Downtown Anaheim Community Center. The theme for this year's Youth in Government day is "Community Rebuild" where we have built a curriculum for students to have the opportunity to explore the question of "How can the City of Anaheim improve the quality of life in an effort to rebuild communities for residents?" The deadline for students to register is Friday, February 3rd.

Dear Kennedy Families, 

This is Ms. Guzmán. It has been a pleasure serving our Kennedy community for the last year and a half as the Family and Community Engagement Specialist (FACES). I have been offered an opportunity that I could not pass by as it will allow me to spend more time with my family. I will definitely miss working with the Kennedy family and staff.

 

On-Campus Tutoring After School is available for all scholars Monday-Wednesday and Friday. Tutoring is offered in the library from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. No appointment is needed.

Kennedy’s First-Ever Soapbox Speech ContestParents, Kennedy is excited to announce our first-ever Soapbox Speech Contest coming up next month. Is your student concerned with issues affecting their community?  Do they have great ideas on how those issues can be solved? Do they like sharing their unique, powerful voice and opinion?  Do they want more public speaking opportunities?

Since you likely answered yes to those questions, have them come to the next two Saturday Academies.  On January 21, they will learn all about Soapbox Speeches and have the chance to research and draft a speech.  Then, they’ll come back on February 4th to compete in our first Soapbox Speech Contest on campus, with the opportunity to enter the AUHSD District Soapbox Challenge. Look at the attached graphic and have them scan the code to sign up, or come talk to Mrs. Soeltz in Room 411 for more information.

If you are new to our district and/or the LCAP process and interested in participating please attend the orientation on Tuesday, January 24th at 6:00 pm.  Click on the subheading for additional information. Your active participation matters. There will be Spanish, Korean, and Vietnamese interpretation. Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)

 

Challenge Success - Stanford Survey of School Experiences. Our school is taking part in a survey being conducted by researchers in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University. The goal of the survey is to better understand the student experience in school. This survey will be available for your student to complete beginning January 23, 2023. An email with the link will be sent then. No School on Monday January, 16th - Martin Luther King Jr. Day

 

Administrative Update. AP Mr. Hari is no longer at Kennedy. The interim AP for the remainder of the semester will be Mrs. Joan McGhee. Mrs. McGhee was a teacher, coach and ASB Director at Kennedy. She served as an AP at Walker, Katella, and Western. Please welcome her back to Kennedy! Mrs. McGhee serves 10th grade students and 9th grade alpha Q-Z.  

 

1st Semester Grades will be posted on Aeries Thursday, January 19th by the end of the school day.
 

Students: It is the 2nd semester! Please make sure you are not cutting in front of other students in the lunch line. Be courteous. Administrators are monitoring the lines and helping them move as quickly as possible. Your help and support is greatly appreciated!

The focus of this meeting is to inform our families about the Artificial Intelligence (AI) pathway that is offered at Walker Junior High and continuing at Kennedy High School as a 6 year plan. Once the Coffee presentation is over we will continue with the Parent Learning Walk portion. At that time, parents joining virtually, may log off. 

We will then be visiting classrooms to offer parents a short glimpse of what students are doing in the classrooms for this pathway. This meeting will be longer than usual for that reason. School Site Council Meeting- Wednesday, Jan. 18th, at 3:30 pm in Room 101. The School Site Council (SSC) is comprised of the principal, teachers, other school personnel, parents and students.  It provides a forum for all of Kennedy's constituents to come together, identify common goals, and establish a plan to achieve these goals.  This involvement occurs through the development of the SPSA (School plan for student achievement), the continuous review of the implementation of the plan, the assessment of the effectiveness of the plan, and the ongoing review and updating of the school plan.  It is also a forum for you to receive on-going up to date information regarding the school and provide input representing your specific group.

 

Class of 2023. Need help with completing the FAFSA and other Financial Aid support? Cypress College representatives will be on campus Thursday January 19th from 5-7pm. Bring your tax documents to get 1 on 1 support. Remember in order to get 2 years free at the community college, Financial Aid applications must be completed.

Saturday Academy 1/21/23. Has your student missed a day or more of school? We have the perfect solution to help them catch up on missed learning. It’s called Saturday Academy. At our Saturday Academies, our wonderful Kennedy teachers give students additional support for their missed work. Our next Saturday Academy is on January 21st at 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.  Space is limited. Reservation Tickets will be handed out during the week and once you sign it, your student returns it to the Counseling Center to reserve their spot. We hope you take advantage of this opportunity!  

 

Kennedy’s First-Ever Soapbox Speech ContestParents, Kennedy is excited to announce our first-ever Soapbox Speech Contest coming up next month. Is your student concerned with issues affecting their community?  Do they have great ideas on how those issues can be solved? Do they like sharing their unique, powerful voice and opinion?  Do they want more public speaking opportunities?

Since you likely answered yes to those questions, have them come to the next two Saturday Academies.  On January 21, they will learn all about Soapbox Speeches and have the chance to research and draft a speech.  Then, they’ll come back on February 4 to complete in our first Soapbox Speech Contest on campus, with the opportunity to enter the AUHSD District Soapbox Challenge. Look at the attached graphic and have them scan the code to sign up, or come talk to Mrs. Soeltz in Room 411 for more information.

Challenge Success - Stanford Survey of School Experiences. Our school is taking part in a survey being conducted by researchers in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University. The goal of the survey is to better understand the student experience in school. This survey will be available for your student to complete beginning January 23, 2023. An email with the link will be sent then.
